Calling in sick...

I dont like to call in sick. I would much rather be at work. The last time I did was about 4 years ago. I have to be really sick not to go in. Here is how I called in sick this morning.

at 10:45 this morning, I knew there would be no way for me to work. I went to bed last night with a sinus/migraine and let me tell you it hurt. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling sick so off to the bathroom I went. Back and forth to the bathroom all night. Once I got up for the day, I still had my migraine.

I sent out texts out to the managers. I said "I am texting in sick". One reply came back, off today call K. Another reply came back, call GM.

I called GM and he asked me what was wrong with me? I dont understand why this was asked. Is he a doctor now? Why should I have to tell them why I am sick? Its really none of their business.

You are correct. People shouldn't have to explain. I sure hope you are feeling better. Migraines are a BIG bummer - - you have to deal with pain AND nausea.

Feel better soon. I used to get really sick with migraines. I found Frova. One pill usually did the trick. I discovered that a low sugar diet helped prevent them.

I always hated wasting a day off to be sick!

I hope you are feeling better by now! I know how bad those migraines can be, and have had them for years. I feel for you!

If we have an employee call off sick, we don't just say ok. We ask what is wrong, and are genuinely concerned. We also ask to help us plan for the next few days in case we think that employee will be out more than a day. And we also ask, because if an employee has the flu we do NOT want them coming to work and spreading it around and will let them know not to come in with flu until they are definitely over it.

As for texting in sick--call me old fashioned, by I cannot imagine! For one, it's like email--you do not know if and when somebody reads your text. And two, well, I'm sure you know that some people say they are sick (when they are not) just to be off on that day. It's too "easy" to do that by texting.

We have a policy in place--text messaging has no place at work for business or personal. It is too impersonal and too distracting.

All that time you spent texting different managers could've probably been saved by just one phone call.

Sorry if I sound like I'm lecturing your for texting in sick; I've just never heard of such a thing. If texting in sick is acceptable at your place of employment, then no harm done. But I hope you or anyone else don't think it is an acceptable practice elsewhere.

Did I mention, I hate texting (or can you tell)? LOL

I have suffered from headaches all my life, so I feel I am somewhat of an expert on them. I can tell the different kinds I have - whether they are a migraine, sinus, or "sick" headache. What works the best for me for sinus headaches is Sudafed for Sinus headaches. It kicks in in about 20 minutes. Try it next time you suffer from one. As far as migraines, I am on Topamax, which I take twice a day as a preventative. It sure has relived me from migraines.
